Mood review challenge
A short self-test covering mood words, energy dials, tempo language and emotional arcs.
What you should be able to do now
- Replace a reaction word ("emotional", "vibey") with a musical mood word.
- Name the three energy dials — tempo, density, intensity — and move each independently.
- Give a BPM number and a feel word that agree with the genre.
- Describe an emotional arc in one clause rather than one adjective.
- Spot when three mood words are cancelling each other out.
Challenge 1 — diagnose
Here is a weak prompt: *"emotional song, really good vibes, intense, chill, fast but also slow, amazing quality"*. Find every problem before reading on.
- *emotional*, *good vibes*, *amazing quality* are reactions, not musical instructions.
- *intense* and *chill* are opposite intensity requests with no arc connecting them.
- *fast but also slow* is an unresolved tempo conflict — pick one and add a feel word.
- No genre, no instruments, so the mood words have nothing to attach to.
Challenge 2 — rewrite
Rewrite the prompt above into four to six lines that keep the obvious intent (something moving, with contrast) but replace every vague word with a musical one. Compare yours to the example below; there is no single right answer, but a good answer names a genre, one mood family, one tempo with a feel word, and one transition.
Example
Practice
Take your three most-used prompts and audit each one against the checklist above. Most working prompts fail on the arc line — they name a mood but never let it move. Add one transition clause to each, regenerate, and keep whichever version you would actually listen to twice.
