Build a prompt you can revise

  • A workable first draft: one or two genres, one to three instruments, one or two mood words, a single vocal direction, one or two production traits. Leave tempo, arc and melody empty unless they matter.
  • Order carries weight. The direction you care about most goes first. A second genre reads as an influence, not an equal partner.
  • Genre names a lane, not a verdict. "intimate chamber pop" is a direction; "great song" is not.
  • Instruments work better as phrases. "warm string quartet" and "fingerpicked nylon guitar" paint a picture; "strings" and "guitar" leave the choice open.
  • Pair mood with intensity. "nostalgic and restrained" says more than "nostalgic" alone.
  • Vocal is three decisions: who sings, how they deliver it, and what the harmonies do behind them.
  • Production means space. Mic distance, room size, stereo width and dynamic range — keep tempo out of this slot.
  • Lyrics stay in the lyrics box. Section tags like [Chorus] belong there; see the structure tag helper.

Compact vs detailed

Compact flattens every filled pillar into one comma-separated line and drops repeated tags — the shape most people paste into the Style field. Detailed keeps one labelled line per pillar, which is easier to read when you are testing a change and want to see exactly which dimension moved.

How to test a change

Change one pillar per round and generate two or three takes. If the result moves in the direction you wanted, keep the new wording and move to the next pillar. If nothing changes, the wording is probably too abstract — swap it for something a session musician could act on.

FAQ

Does anything I type here leave my browser?
No. The builder runs entirely in this tab and holds nothing after you close it. The optional suggestion chips are loaded from this site's own reference lists; the tool works with or without them.
Do I have to fill all eight pillars?
No — and you usually shouldn't. Empty pillars leave those decisions to the model. Most strong prompts use four or five.
Why does the compact output drop some of my words?
Compact mode removes tags that already appear earlier in the line, matching case-insensitively. If you want a phrase twice for emphasis, use detailed mode instead — repetition rarely helps anyway.
How long should a Style prompt be?
Long enough to be specific, short enough that every phrase earns its place. If you're trimming to a limit, paste the result into the Style string cleaner and set a character budget.
Can I edit the output directly?
Yes. The output box is editable and the character count follows your edits. Note that changing a pillar afterwards regenerates the text.
